Austin Bar Mass Shooting: Suspect Wearing “Property Of Allah” Hoodie Kills 2, Wounds 14

-

A 53-year-old naturalized citizen from Senegal killed two people and wounded 14 others at an Austin bar early Sunday while wearing a “Property of Allah” hoodie. The FBI is investigating a potential terrorism nexus, as the attack occurred just one day after a U.S.-Israeli military operation killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

AUSTIN, TX — The vibrant nightlife of Austin’s 6th Street district was shattered early Sunday morning, March 1, 2026, by a mass shooting that federal authorities are investigating as a potential act of terrorism. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a 53-year-old allegedly circled Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden in an SUV before opening fire with a pistol through the window. He then exited the vehicle armed with a rifle and continued shooting pedestrians as he walked down the street.

Responding officers engaged and killed the suspect within 57 seconds of the initial call. In the aftermath, two victims were pronounced dead and 14 others were hospitalized, including three in critical condition.

Radicalization and the Iranian Connection

The investigation has quickly focused on the suspect’s potential ideological motives. At the time of the shooting, he was reportedly wearing a sweatshirt that read “Property of Allah” over a T-shirt featuring the Iranian flag. A subsequent search of his home uncovered another Iranian flag and photographs of Iranian regime leaders.

The timing of the attack is particularly sensitive, occurring less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump announced a massive U.S.-Israeli military strike that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) is investigating whether the suspect was a “self-radicalized” lone wolf or part of a sleeper cell, investigators have noted his history of mental health episodes in Austin and previous arrests in New York.

Texas Responds: Operation Fury Shield

In a swift response, Governor Greg Abbott has activated the Texas Military Department under Operation Fury Shield. This directive increases patrols at critical infrastructure, energy facilities, and ports across the state, while also surging law enforcement presence in downtown Austin during weekends.

”To anyone who thinks about using the current conflict in the Middle East to threaten Texans… understand this clearly: Texas will respond with decisive and overwhelming force,” Abbott stated.

Safety Tip: Entertainment districts are prime targets for “soft target” attacks due to high pedestrian density and limited cover. In an active shooter situation involving a vehicle, your first instinct should be to get behind a substantial engine block or a concrete pillar—glass windows and patio furniture offer zero protection.
