Some anniversaries get a cake. SOG is celebrating its 40th with a knife collectors are probably going to want to grab before it’s gone.

The company has announced the 40th Anniversary Fat Guard Bowie. A limited-edition blade inspired by the original S1 Bowie that helped launch the brand back in 1986. The commemorative knife also pays tribute to the legendary fighting knives carried by MACV-SOG operators during the Vietnam War.

SOG’s 40th Anniversary Fat Guard Bowie pays tribute to the company’s roots with a limited run of just 500 serialized collector’s knives.

SOG is making just 500 individually serialized knives, with each one etched with its unique production number.

The knife features a 6.1-inch clip-point AUS-8 steel blade with a polished black PVD finish for corrosion resistance. Along with a classic stacked leather handle that gives it an old-school look while remaining practical in the field or on display.

SOG didn’t stop with the knife itself.

Each anniversary package includes a commemorative 40th Anniversary Zippo lighter, a black leather sheath with an integrated sharpening stone pocket, a certificate of authenticity, an anniversary plaque, and a handcrafted pine display case with a glass viewing lid. It’s clearly aimed at collectors just as much as users.

For anyone unfamiliar with the history, SOG’s roots trace back to the covert MACV-SOG units that conducted highly classified missions behind enemy lines during the Vietnam War. That legacy has influenced the company’s designs ever since, and this anniversary model leans heavily into that heritage.

Whether this knife ends up in a display case or gets carried into the woods is up to its owner. Either way, the combination of limited production, serialized numbering, and the complete collector’s package is likely to make this one of SOG’s most sought-after releases in recent years.

Collectors interested in the 40th Anniversary Fat Guard Bowie can learn more and watch for availability through SOG’s website.
