According to investigators, the incident occurred during an argument inside a vehicle in La Plata. Two witnesses seated in the back of the car told police that Webber shot Wells, who was in the front passenger seat. The witnesses further alleged that Webber asked for their assistance in disposing of the body; when they refused, they fled the vehicle and flagged down officers with the La Plata Police Department.
