BRIDGEVIEW, IL – A late-night confrontation outside a suburban Chicago pool hall ended in a gunfight early Saturday morning, leaving one man dead and a legally armed concealed carry license holder seriously wounded.

Police responded around 2:11 a.m. to reports of a shooting outside Que Ball Sports Bar located at 7735 S. Harlem Avenue, according to Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident followed a verbal exchange between two groups that had been inside the business shortly before the shooting.

Preliminary information indicates one group had been playing inside the pool hall around 2 a.m. when another group entered. About ten minutes later, the first group left the establishment, and the second group followed them into the parking lot.

Police say words were exchanged outside before a man from the second group allegedly brandished a handgun. In response, a concealed carry license holder from the first group retrieved a firearm from his vehicle.

Gunfire was exchanged between the two men. The individual who initially displayed the handgun was struck multiple times and transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead within an hour.

The concealed carry license holder was also shot, suffering a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to the same hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition, according to authorities.

Neighboring police departments assisted with crowd control as a large group gathered at the scene following the shooting. Detectives recovered the concealed carrier’s firearm along with numerous shell casings in the parking lot.

As of Saturday afternoon, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office had not released the identity of the deceased individual. Police also confirmed that no charges had been filed while the investigation remains ongoing.

Incidents like this also serve as a reminder that late-night environments, especially locations where alcohol is present, can increase the potential for confrontations to escalate quickly. Even routine disagreements can turn serious when emotions rise and firearms are introduced into the situation. While responsibility always rests with the person who initiates violence, many experienced carriers emphasize the importance of situational awareness and carefully choosing when and where to spend time. The Second Amendment protects the fundamental right of law-abiding citizens to defend their lives when faced with an imminent threat, but avoidance and awareness remain valuable tools for personal safety whenever possible.
