Pajaro Family Fights Back: Intruder Subdued After Entering Young Girls’ Bedroom, Exposing Himself

-

A Pajaro family acted in self-defense on Saturday morning when they subdued 31-year-old Aniketh Kumar after he allegedly broke into their home and entered a bedroom where two young girls were sleeping. Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed the family held the suspect, who allegedly exposed himself to the children, until law enforcement arrived.

PAJARO, CA — A terrifying home invasion in Pajaro ended with a suspect in the hospital and a family being praised for their quick thinking and bravery. Early Saturday morning, March 14, 2026, 31-year-old Aniketh Kumar allegedly entered a residence through an unlocked door and made his way into a bedroom occupied by two young girls.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, Kumar exposed himself to the children, whose screams alerted the rest of the household. The family immediately intervened, physically subduing Kumar and holding him on the ground until deputies arrived on the scene. Kumar sustained injuries during the struggle and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Protecting the Most Vulnerable

Commander Scott Davis of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the family was within their rights to protect their household. “You do have a right to self-defense in your own home, especially when you feel that your life or maybe a family member’s life is at danger,” Davis stated.

Investigators have since revealed that this was not an isolated incident; Kumar is suspected of entering at least one other home in the area that same morning. He currently faces multiple potential felony charges, including:

  • Burglary
  • Harassing a minor

The case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution. Residents in the neighborhood have expressed increased anxiety following the breach, with many vowing to double-check locks and windows. Kumar will be booked into the Monterey County Jail as soon as he is medically cleared.

Safety Tip: The “unlocked door” is the most common entry point for opportunistic predators. While we often focus on advanced security systems, “door discipline” is your most effective defense. In a scenario where an intruder reaches a bedroom, your time for a measured response is zero. This family’s decision to immediately subdue the threat was the correct tactical move to ensure the suspect could not escape or cause further harm before police arrived.
