Gun control in Canada is based on lies

-

Gun control in Canada is based on lies that the Liberals spread about guns and crime. Are you surprised?

Carney’s Liberals love to talk about how murder rates are higher in the US than in Canada, but they don’t want to admit that murder rates are falling in the US.

How could violent crime decrease when Americans own so many “scary looking” guns like the AR-15?

The Liberals claim that Canadian gun control keeps us safe

Balderdash. Just another lie. Recent stats from the FBI undermine the Trudeau/Carney gun grab.

Criminal control works

Preliminary estimates from the FBI Crime Data Explorer, now available for the first year of the Trump administration (2024-2025), show that

Crime is dropping in the United States:

Murder and non-negligent manslaughter plummeted more than 18 percent;
Aggravated assault fell more than 7 percent;
Rape declined nearly 8 percent;
Robbery cratered by about 18.5 percent;
Violent crime plunged 9.3 percent;
Property crime fell 12.4 percent.

Thanks to a tremendous effort by the Trump administration to arrest or deport violent criminals since Trump kicked Biden and Obama out of the White House.

Locking up or deporting violent criminals reduces criminal violence:

413,991 violent crime arrests;
868,330 property crime arrests;
900,000 illegal aliens have been deported, and
another 900,000 have been arrested and are awaiting deportation.

How does Canada Compare?

In contrast with the US, violent crime in Canada has jumped since Justin Trudeau’s Liberals gained power in 2015, according to Statistics Canada (2024 is the most recent year national crime statistics are available). Open borders are dangerous.

Gun control in Canada is based on lies

In Canada since 2015:

Violent crime has jumped 34 percent;
Homicide has increased 12 percent;
Sexual assault has skyrocket by 91 percent!

Canadian policy appears to be that repeat offenders can easily get bail. Even if kept in jail for awhile, typically offenders are released early.

Ottawa doesn’t even know how many illegals are in the country!

A 2008 Auditor General report famously noted that Canada had lost track of 41,000 illegal immigrants, and no similar audit has been widely publicized since. Estimates today range from 20,000 to 500,000, a gap that reflects both the hidden nature of this population and the political agendas behind the numbers.

The Liberals claim that Canadian gun control keeps us safe

Almost all of the US is safer than Toronto. Despite of – or because of – the wide-spread ownership of firearms and civic minded owners willing and able to defend themselves and their communities. On the other hand, in Canada, legal restrictions make it all but illegal for citizens to use a firearm to protect themselves or their families.

Canadians may be surprised to learn that murders in the US are concentrated in just a few places. Except for a few localities, half of the counties in the USA have no murders at all; many other counties have very few. There are more murders each year in Toronto than in most places in the US.

Murder in the United States is primarily limited to a few small areas

A recent study of 2020 homicide rates by John Lott, president of Crime Prevention Research Center, found that:

Just 2% of counties had 56% of the murders, while
52% of US counties had zero murders.

Murder isn’t a nationwide problem. It’s a problem in a few urban counties (run by corrupt Democrats). Even in such counties, murders are primarily limited to a few small areas.

Consider Los Angeles County, California, for example

Figure 7 shows the distribution of murders across zip codes in Los Angeles County, California in 2020. The worst 10% of the zip codes account for 41% of the murders, the worst 20% have 67%, and the worst 30% have 82%. By contrast, the safest 40% of the counties have just 1% of the murders.

Murder in the United States tend to be in areas with the most restrictive gun laws

Coincidentally, areas with the most murders tend to have the most restrictive gun laws: Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. Murderers may be crazy, but they are not stupid. They prefer gun-free zones where their victims are likely to be helpless.

According to a 2021 PEW Research Center survey, the household gun ownership rate in rural areas was 79% higher than in urban areas, and suburban households are 37.9% more likely to own guns than urban households. This result was confirmed by the 2021 survey by Georgetown University professor William English who also found that a “majority of gun owners (56.2%) indicate that they carry a handgun for self-defense in at least some circumstances.”

Unsurprisingly, urban areas experience much higher murder rates despite lower [legal] gun ownership. For what it’s worth, it is interesting to note that so much of the USA has both very high gun ownership rates and zero murders.

Will the Carney Liberals wake up? Don’t bet on it.

Consider Tumbler Ridge

BC Premier David Eby promised to build a new secondary school in Tumbler Ridge, saying students cannot return to the school where such a devastating event happened.

No announcement about any changes in police procedure that allowed a family with a mentally challenged teen to keep their firearms despite repeated run ins with police and health authorities. Not even an admission that there were procedure failures.
