Kent Home Invasion Ends in Shooting

KENT, WA — A quiet neighborhood turned chaotic just before 3 a.m. when multiple armed intruders forced their way into a home and ran into a homeowner who was ready.

According to reporting from FOX 13 Seattle and KING 5 News, the family inside the home on Hampton Way woke up to what police described as a loud bang as suspects broke in overnight.

From there, things moved fast.

One of the homeowners woke her husband, who went straight to a safe near the bed, grabbed a firearm, and went downstairs to investigate what was happening inside his own home.

Self-defense doesn’t end when the threat goes down. That’s when the real battle begins. Lawyers. Prosecutors. Headlines. USCCA Members never fight that battle alone. Find out how.

This Kent home invasion ended in a shooting. The armed homeowner was ready and willing to protect his family.

That’s when the confrontation happened.

Police say the homeowner opened fire, striking at least one of the suspects. That individual was taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The rest of the group didn’t stick around.

Authorities say multiple suspects were involved in the break-in, and those who weren’t hit fled the scene. A K9 unit was brought in to track them, but as of the latest reports, it’s still unclear how many have been located or if any are in custody.

Inside the home, multiple family members were present at the time, including a daughter and her husband. No one inside the home was reported injured.

Investigators spent hours on scene, combing through the property and trying to piece together what led up to the incident, including one big question: Why this house?

Police say they’re now working backward to determine whether the home was specifically targeted or if this was a random act.

As for the homeowner, early indications suggest this shooting, following the home invasion in Kent, falls squarely within Washington’s legal framework for self-defense.

Authorities noted that while every case is reviewed individually, the state generally recognizes a version of the “castle doctrine.” Meaning individuals have the right to defend themselves and their families inside their home.

Still, as with any shooting, the case will be reviewed by prosecutors once the investigation is complete. What stands out here is how quickly the situation escalated—and how quickly it ended.

Multiple armed suspects. A forced entry in the middle of the night. A family inside with nowhere to go. And a homeowner who didn’t hesitate.

It’s the kind of scenario people talk about all the time but rarely expect to actually face. Hopefully, you’re as prepared as this homeowner was.
