Langdon Tactical Technology is best known for turning good handguns into exceptional ones. Its tuned Berettas, HKs and CZs have earned a loyal following, while the company’s work on the Beretta 1301 helped establish the modern premium defensive shotgun.
Now Langdon is giving the Mossberg 590 pump gun the same treatment.
The new LTT Mossberg 590 is offered as an 18.5-inch defensive shotgun, with prices currently ranging from $1,534 to $1,623. LTT also plans to offer a 14.375-inch Shockwave version, although the compact model is currently marked “coming soon” on the company’s website.
The 18.5-inch gun is ready to go out of the box with a Magpul stock. The Shockwave ships with its bird’s-head grip, but Langdon is also showing customers what the short gun can become. An end user can file an ATF Form 1, receive approval to make a short-barreled shotgun and then install a shoulder stock.
LTT displayed exactly that configuration in its launch video. Frankly, the 14.375-inch gun wearing a Magpul stock looks right. It’s a short, handy set up like a serious defensive shotgun should be.
What Does Langdon Change?
The heart of the package is LTT’s action work. Mossberg pump guns are dependable, but nobody has ever accused a new 590 of having the smoothest action in the shotgun rack. As LTT Product Development Manager Mitchell Booth put it, Mossbergs can have “notoriously crunchy actions” compared to competing pump guns.
LTT’s gunsmiths strategically polish the interacting action components and apply NP3 to selected internal parts. NP3 incorporates PTFE into the coating, reducing friction and providing additional corrosion resistance. LTT says the action is smoother out of the box and should continue to slick up as the shotgun is used.
That matters on a fighting pump gun. A pump shotgun demands positive operation from the shooter, and a smoother action makes it easier to cycle the gun aggressively without fighting unnecessary drag.
LTT also stones the trigger components, NP3-coats the appropriate parts and replaces the trigger-return spring. The result is a published pull weight of approximately 4.5 pounds instead of the factory gun’s roughly seven-pound trigger.
The sighting system is another meaningful upgrade. LTT installs its Fastback optic mount with footprints available for the RMR, Aimpoint ACRO and Holosun 509T. A click-adjustable backup rear sight sits forward of the optic, leaving the loading port accessible for emergency port loading.
Up front, LTT adds its new Adjustable Super Duty Shotgun Sight. It provides 30 MOA of total adjustment in half-MOA increments, allowing the shooter to properly regulate the iron sights without filling the optic window with an oversized front sight.

More Than an Accessories Package
This is not simply a factory 590 wearing Magpul furniture and a red-dot mount.
LTT lengthens the barrel’s forcing cone to create a more gradual transition from the chamber into the bore. The company says this reduces pellet deformation, tightens patterns and spreads the recoil impulse over a slightly longer period, making the gun feel softer.
The shotgun also receives a Magpul forend and LTT’s Labyrinth heat shield. The shield protects the support hand during high-round-count shooting while allowing a thumb-over-bore grip. It also incorporates cable management for a weapon-mounted light and leaves the gun accessible for violin loading.
One limitation is mini-shell compatibility. LTT says the gun requires an aftermarket adapter to cycle 1¾-inch shells reliably. Buyers looking for the factory multi-length capability of Mossberg’s 590S should understand the difference.
Langdon is asking premium semiautomatic-shotgun money for a pump gun.
The 18.5-inch model is the practical ready-to-go option. The forthcoming Shockwave, particularly after an approved Form 1 and the addition of a stock, may be the more interesting option.
Either way, Langdon may have built their ultimate fighting pump gun, but at more than $1,500, it needs to prove it on the range.
