TULSA, OK – A man died after being shot by a resident during an early morning home break-in, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Police say officers responded to a shooting around 2:45 a.m. on March 10 near 124th Terrace and Kingston Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 27-year-old Sean Six suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a hospital where he later died.

According to Tulsa Police, investigators determined that Six had broken into a home where his ex-girlfriend was staying with a friend.

Police say Six first attempted to enter the home through a window. After that failed, he kicked in the front door.

More from USA Carry:

Once inside the home, the ex-girlfriend’s friend shot Six.

Detectives questioned the friend following the incident. Tulsa Police said the individual was released pending further investigation.

Situations like this highlight how quickly a forced entry into an occupied home can become dangerous for those inside. When someone unlawfully enters a residence where people are present, the occupants may be forced to make split-second decisions to protect themselves from a perceived threat.

For many gun owners, incidents like this reinforce why the right to keep and bear arms remains an important part of personal safety. Lawful firearm ownership gives individuals a means to defend themselves when confronted with a potentially violent intruder inside their home.
