Taurus Enters the PDW Game with New 9mm RPC

Taurus is stepping into a new lane.

The company just dropped the RPC, its first dedicated entry into the 9mm PDW (personal defense weapon) category, and it’s clearly aimed at shooters who want something compact but still configurable.

At a glance, the RPC checks a lot of familiar boxes for this space.

You’ve got a 4.5-inch threaded barrel, a full-length Picatinny rail up top, and an M-LOK handguard for adding lights, grips, or whatever else fits your setup. It feeds from 32-round 9mm magazines, which puts it right in line with other PDW-style platforms built for capacity and control.

But where Taurus seems to be focusing is usability.

The controls are fully ambidextrous, including the bolt release and mag release, and the charging handle is reversible and non-reciprocating, which gives you some flexibility depending on how you like to run the gun.

There’s also a flat-faced single-stage trigger, an AR-style overmolded grip, and multiple QD sling attachment points baked into the design.

Nothing groundbreaking individually. But all things most shooters expect in this category.

One interesting addition is the quick-change barrel system, which Taurus says opens the door for future configurations. Details are still pretty light on how far that flexibility goes, but it’s something to watch.

As for build, the RPC uses hard-anodized aluminum with a Cerakote finish, keeping weight down while aiming for durability. Taurus also says it’s built to NATO standards, which is becoming a more common benchmark claim in this segment.

There are two versions out of the gate:

  • RPC Standard, with a rear Picatinny rail for customization (MSRP: $939.99)
  • RPC with Strike Industries brace, offering a folding setup for added stability while keeping things compact (MSRP: $1098.99)

So where does it land?

The PDW market isn’t exactly empty right now.

But Taurus has built its reputation on offering feature-heavy platforms at more accessible price points—and the RPC looks like it’s trying to bring that same approach into the 9mm PDW space.

Shipments are already heading to dealers nationwide, so this one should start popping up pretty quickly.
