Texas Nightclub Shooting Sparks Terror, Gun Control Clash

-

What’s a gun-grabbing Democrat politician to do when a foreign-born Muslim dressed in a “property of Allah” hoodie shoots up a nightclub in Texas the day after the United States launched Operation Epic Fury in Iran?

If you guessed ignore the terror connection and push for more restrictive gun laws, you can go to the head of the class.

U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin, took to X to claim that Republican lawmakers and pro-gun organizations were responsible for the attack, not the Muslim terrorist who actually pulled the trigger.

“Gun violence is preventable,” he posted. “This devastating loss of life was preventable. Until Republicans find the courage to say no to the NRA, our country will be plagued with more tragedies.”

Democrat Texas State Rep. James Talerico, who is in a battle with Democrat U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the current U.S. Senate primary race, also called for more gun control, despite the fact that it isn’t typically a popular opinion in the Lone Star State.

“America is praying for Austin,” Talerico posted on X. “But there is something profoundly cynical about asking God to solve a problem we’re not willing to solve ourselves. God moves and works through us. God has no other hands but our hands. We must act.”

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, head of the gun-ban group Giffords, even took advantage of the loss of life to push for more restrictive gun laws.

“I am heartbroken by the shooting in Austin, Texas, where a night out on Sixth Street ended in violence,” Giffords posted on X. “My heart is with the victims, the survivors and their loved ones. Americans deserve to feel safe in their communities. Safety is not a privilege—it is a right. It is time for our leaders to show courage, take responsibility and build safer communities where every family can live without fear.”

All of these cries for more gun control should fall on deaf ears in this case, where an illegally armed attacker propagated his terror in a bar, where lawful gun owners are banned from carrying firearms. And ignoring the probable terrorist connection is equally maddening.

According to a CBSNews.com report, there were indicators on the suspect and in his vehicle that suggest a “potential nexus to terrorism,” FBI Acting Special Agent Alex Doran said during a briefing Sunday. Huh, ya think.

Along with the “Property of Allah” hoodie, the killer, originally from Senegal, was also wearing an undershirt featuring the Iranian flag. In his vehicle, investigators found a Koran. Later, while searching the murderer’s home, investigators found an Iranian flag and photographs of Iranian leaders.

Still, whether it was terror-inspired hasn’t yet been determined by crack investigators on the case. “They are looking at whether the shooter was influenced by extremist ideology and if there is a nexus to international terrorism, but cautioned that the individual had prior mental health issues,” the CBS News report stated.
