MIRAMAR, FL — A woman has died after being shot inside an apartment at a Miramar gated community early Friday morning, and the man who lives at the residence is believed to have fired the shot, according to police.

Miramar Police responded to 10750 North Preserve Way shortly after 2 a.m. following a report of a robbery. Officers arrived to a heavy law enforcement presence and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died. Her identity has not been released.

When officers reached the scene, they encountered a man inside the apartment with the woman. Police said the two were known to each other, and the male resident is cooperating with the investigation.

“They are actually known to each other and we are just trying to piece, put together what is happening and our detectives are still on scene,” Miramar Police spokesperson Janice McIntosh said.

More from USA Carry:

McIntosh said there was no threat to the public or to other residents of the community. Detectives remained at the apartment complex Friday morning as the investigation continued.

A neighbor expressed concern over the incident. “It’s a big concern, you know, it’s serious,” he said, adding that he was surprised to see this kind of violence inside the gated community.

For armed citizens, this case illustrates how complicated shooting incidents can become when the people involved know each other. The legal standard for use of deadly force is the same regardless of relationship. Force is lawful only against an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm. Once a shot is fired, every detail of what led to it will be examined.

The Second Amendment protects the right of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms for self-defense, and that right remains a fundamental civil liberty. With it comes the responsibility to understand the legal framework that governs the use of force. Knowing the law in your state, training under realistic conditions, and being able to articulate what you saw, heard, and reasonably believed in the moment are essential parts of being a responsible armed citizen.

Investigators have not released any additional information about what led to the shooting. The case remains under active investigation.
