ST. LOUIS, MO – A 15-year-old was shot and wounded after he allegedly pointed a gun at a man and opened fire at a south St. Louis gas station, according to police. The man returned fire, striking the teen, and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

As reported by First Alert 4, the shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of South Grand and Park Avenue, in the city’s Tiffany neighborhood. Officers responding to the scene recovered multiple shell casings in the gas station parking lot.

Police said the initial investigation shows the teen produced a firearm, pointed it at the man, and then fired shots at him. The man drew his own firearm and returned gunfire, hitting the 15-year-old.

The teen was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable condition. The armed citizen who fired in response stayed at the scene and is cooperating with detectives, police confirmed.

Investigators said they are reviewing security footage from the area as the investigation continues. District 2 detectives are asking anyone with additional information to contact them at (314) 444-0100.

More from USA Carry:

Based on the facts reported by police, the man appears to have acted in lawful self-defense. Missouri law recognizes the right of a person to use force, including deadly force, when facing an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm. A person who has a gun pointed at them and is being shot at is facing exactly that kind of threat.

This incident is a reminder that violent attacks can happen anywhere, including routine stops at a gas station in the middle of the afternoon. Situational awareness matters. Noticing who is around you, keeping your hands free, and having a plan if something goes wrong can make the difference in the seconds that count.

It also underscores why the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental civil right. The Second Amendment protects the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves when no one else is there to help. An armed citizen who is forced to act in the face of a deadly threat should not have to choose between their life and their freedom to carry the tool that can save it.
