New 92 Wildlands Field Lever Gun

Chiappa is leaning into the “modern classic” idea with its latest release, the 92 Wildlands Field, a lever-action rifle that keeps the traditional 1892 design intact while adding a few updates aimed at real-world use.

At its core, this is still very much a lever gun.

“Manufactured in Italy, the 92 Wildlands Field continues Chiappa’s approach of refining classic lever-action platforms with thoughtful updates that support modern field use while preserving the character that has made the 1892 design endure.” MSRP: $1,255.

The rifle runs on a Model 1892-style action, chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, and feeds from a tubular magazine holding 8+1 rounds. It’s a familiar setup (compact, simple, and proven) especially for shooters who like running revolver cartridges through a rifle.

Where things start to shift a bit is in the details.

Chiappa paired the action with a 16.5-inch barrel, keeping the overall length down to around 35 inches. It’s a handy size for thick woods, brush, or anything that doesn’t require a long gun to stretch things out. The barrel is also threaded 5/8×24, which opens the door for suppressors or other muzzle devices. Something you’re seeing more often on lever guns lately.

Sights follow that same “practical upgrade” approach.

Up front, you’ve got a red fiber-optic sight for visibility in low light, while the rear uses a peep sight mounted to a Picatinny rail. That rail also gives you the option to run an optic if you want, without ditching the rifle’s traditional feel.

The furniture is where Chiappa blends old and new the most.

It’s still walnut, still classic in appearance, but the forend now includes M-LOK slots along the sides and bottom. That means you can add a bipod or other accessories without turning the rifle into something unrecognizable. The grip itself has a tapered, checkered profile that feels a bit more intentional than what you’d find on older designs.

Everything else stays familiar: steel receiver, half-cock hammer safety, rubber buttplate. Nothing here is trying to reinvent how a lever gun works.

The Wildlands Field isn’t chasing trends or trying to turn a lever rifle into something it’s not. It’s just a slightly more adaptable version of a platform most shooters already understand. Built for hunting and general field use.

MSRP lands at $1,255, putting it in line with other modernized lever guns that mix traditional design with a few practical upgrades. No gimmicks here. Just a lever gun that’s been nudged forward a bit.
